Flash! OHoooooOOOOh

It's been awhile since I fooled around with my flash.
I don't know why I find firing my flash in my own
face is amusing (not as much as shooting it at other
people though). Anyway I thought this made my
eyes look kinda cool.

Wednesday

It was pretty cold outside when I took these, you can sorta see the frost in the reed pictures.
I tried some new mixing techniques & filters this time around.
The second reed one makes me think of some kind of strange alien planet or something generally strange like that.

Figures

Since the rain ruined my plans I thought I'd try my hand at photographing my anime figures.
It's something I've always wanted to try, but never seemed to get around to.
I was somewhat surprised at the different kinds of feel you can get out of the same static pose depending on the angle. The two figures are Maya Natsume from Tenjho-Tenge and Mari Illustrious Makinami from The new Evangelion movies.

Bee nice

I got a chance to take some pictures of some Bees and a few other insects.
They aren't the most cooperative of models, but seem to be proving as interesting as they are challenging.

Daylight Savings

It's finally time to start using that daylight we were hoarding during the summer.
I hope I saved enough to last me through the winter. It'd be pretty award if I had to go ask my neighbor  for some.

This is the unedited version of this picture from the 26th

Also untitled

Sometimes Wednesdays almost seem like cheating.

After HDR toning a little levels adjustment and the fresco
filter, I got this picture to look like it was painted. more or less.
I'm pleased with the end result.

Photo processing is fun

Here's a couple of pictures for processed picture Wednesday. I used HDR toning on these as well as curves. In the first picture I used the 'ink outlines' filter, in addition to the other filters, to help get all the nooks and crannies to pop even more.

Untitled

Two low angle shots of trees and a bee

I'm going to try and get some more insect pictures in the future.
It's pretty cool to see something small in a good amount of detail.
I know where I can find some bee's and there are walking stick
bugs that live around here, so that should be fun to shoot.

Something Different

And now for something completely different

We hardy fellows are ready.

To boldly enter into that brave new future.

HDR7

It's way too hot out today....

I tried some additional processing in addition to the normal
HDR set. I think it get's an interesting look.

This was a pretty cool spider's web. I tried to get the water
to catch the fire of the sun with limited success. Despite the
picture looking kinda busy I think I still like it overall.

stupid internet

I don't know why the internet has been so messed up for me lately but it almost made me miss my update.

HDR 6

It's raining here so I thought I'd post something sunny.

Here are some happy trees.

Full of color and sunny and cheery.

late post

I don't really have anything particular to say
about this picture except that it reminds me
of an interesting problem I've noticed lately.
sometimes, with my new lens, even if everything
looks like it's going to be in focus through the
viewfinder that it isn't always when I look at
the final product.

HDR 5

I've been wondering for a while what would happen if you made an artificial bracket in Photoshop and processed it like a normal HDR bracket. The results were interesting. All images were processed in exactly the same way.

This has been produced with a normal HDR bracket.

This used only the normal exposure picture

Here's where things get interesting. This picture was made
using an artificial bracket. I used Photoshop to make a +/- 2
exposure picture and then ran it through the HDR process.
It came out pretty weird over all.

This picture was also made with an artificial bracket.
The difference is that I used a bracket with png images
as opposed to jpg images. I also had to manually input
some of the exposure values to get it to work at all.
Photoshop didn't think they were from the same camera
and gave me a hard time. I think the end result is pretty
passable though.

Witty Title

I like how this picture falls into and out of focus.
The lighting is pretty good too. I wish I had a
model or object of interest to play around with
for this shot.

This was an experiment in cropping. I probably could
have taken it in a bit more on the right but I think this
image is better for losing the extra shrubbery.

It's important to make sure that you communicate with
your model. Silly pictures and gags can go a long way
towards a successful shoot.

-----------

When I started I decided I wanted to update twice a week.
I Thought it would be hard but it wasn't that bad at first.
Then life started to get in the way.
Screw you life!
Don't tell me what I can't do.
