HDR 5

I've been wondering for a while what would happen if you made an artificial bracket in Photoshop and processed it like a normal HDR bracket. The results were interesting. All images were processed in exactly the same way.

This has been produced with a normal HDR bracket.

This used only the normal exposure picture

Here's where things get interesting. This picture was made
using an artificial bracket. I used Photoshop to make a +/- 2
exposure picture and then ran it through the HDR process.
It came out pretty weird over all.

This picture was also made with an artificial bracket.
The difference is that I used a bracket with png images
as opposed to jpg images. I also had to manually input
some of the exposure values to get it to work at all.
Photoshop didn't think they were from the same camera
and gave me a hard time. I think the end result is pretty
passable though.

Witty Title

I like how this picture falls into and out of focus.
The lighting is pretty good too. I wish I had a
model or object of interest to play around with
for this shot.

This was an experiment in cropping. I probably could
have taken it in a bit more on the right but I think this
image is better for losing the extra shrubbery.

It's important to make sure that you communicate with
your model. Silly pictures and gags can go a long way
towards a successful shoot.

-----------

When I started I decided I wanted to update twice a week.
I Thought it would be hard but it wasn't that bad at first.
Then life started to get in the way.
Screw you life!
Don't tell me what I can't do.

HDR 4

I've been kinda busy lately son today's post will be shorter than normal.
So I thought I'd share with you a before and after of HDR processing.
While I don't understand all the nuances of the process. From what I
understand, how it works, is by taking the average of 3 pictures.
One over exposed (too dark) one normal and one under exposed (to bright)
and taking the average of those pictures you get your image. Well after moving
some sliding bars to adjust what parts of what images you want to shine through
more. Sprinkle on some magic and there you go.

It never ceases to surprise me how a picture like this.

Can end up like this with only a small amount of processing.

Model madness(sorta)

Here's hoping that I'll be lucky enough to work with more models in the future.

There's just something fun about this pisture.
It didn't come out quite how I wanted but
I'm sure I can get it right next time.

Part of me feels like I should crop this picture but when
I do it doesn't look quite right to me.

Sill hat + Nerf gun + camera = great fun

HDR3

My roommate was kind enough to volunteer as my first model for HDR photography.
I owe him a very special thanks and much gratitude.

Regardless of the awkward height he manages to strike a
Rather daring pose. I mixed this in a more "ideal pic" style.
The colors are bright but not too over the top.

I mixed this two different ways. Above I mixed it in the "ideal" style.

This one I mixed it in a more surreal style. Over all I think
it works well, but I can't decide witch stile I like better and
when it's best to use one over the other.

I may end up cropping this picture later.
Mixed in the "ideal" style, I felt this portrait picture was so nice
that I couldn't help but share it with you.

Hidden World

I like to think that there's a hidden world full of mystery and wonder living in plain sight.
The simple everyday objects and scenes we surround ourselves with and overlook, have a magic and vibrance to them if you take the time to notice it.

Rocks have a lot of character. The closer you look,
The more character and texture become apparent.
All it takes is a little framing and focus to help your
everyday garden rock come to life.

I amazes me how much of life is what we choose to and not to see.

Is this just some dirt, roots grass and some blurry bits?
Yes. But like most things in this world it's more than the
sum of it's parts of things it contains.

Philosophical ramblings and hippie-isms aside. I think people often overlook and take for granted wonderful things that stare them in the face every day. The more I look through my lens, or look at the world through photographers eyes the more I can't help but see they beauty of it all.

More HDR

I'm still trying to figure out this HDR stuff.
For regular photography I have an ok idea of what would look  good but I have yet to develop a good sense of what would look good when processed as HDR.

An abundance of color seems to help the outcome.
But if the picture is too complex it can end up looking weird.

I like the way the house is peaking through the trees.

I really like this rock. Although I fear I may have over saturated it a bit.
It doesn't look spectacular in thumbnail but really comes alive when you
view the full resolution version. The detail in the moss and such is very
interesting.

This is the location of a future shoot. I figured I'd take a shot to remember the
framing as well as practice processing it. I think I may end up using HDR to
make more even photos, as opposed to photos that are supposed to just
"look cool", But who knows. Also I'm looking forwards to shooting with a model
That's bound to have an interesting outcome.

Depth of field

I like this picture of my model because you can almost quite
literally count how many inches wide the depth of field is.

I just put this here because I thought this was a fun use of the narrow depth of field.
That poor little rouge has no idea what's behind him.

I'm struck at how much a few stops can change the way a picture feels.
This picture has an aperture of 1.8 and the leaves are nicely blurred while
the top of the post is crisply in focus.

This picture was shot with an aperture of 3.2.
The ground and leaves are still blurry, but the picture has a very different feel than it did at 1.8.
